“Just write every day of your life. Read intensely. Then see what happens.”
—Ray Bradbury
Welcome to Just See What Happens. I’m so excited that you’re here!
This is my little corner of the world.
Ray Bradbury’s quote has been my guiding light (my motto) for years. It’s like he reached out and gave me a formula for being a writer. Write. Read. But also trust that if you do those things, something will happen.
This Substack is where I’ll be exploring my own ‘just see what happens.’
I’ll talk about my own fiction writing. And share a serialized novel that I’ll introduce you to in a moment.
I’ll share what I’m reading.
And I’ll talk about analog planning—planning in paper notebooks. Systems are my learning project for 2022, so I’ll share that here, too.
Shaunta Grimes is a novelist and the owner of Ninja Writers (the coolest online writing community on the planet.)
The Serial Killers—I’m one fifth of a very cool little mastermind of writers dedicated to learning how to write and publish serialized fiction. We are recording our weekly meetings to share with you on the Write Brain (that’s Ninja Writer’s Substack newsletter.)
The Undergrounders—Coming in February. The Undergrounders is a retelling of Robin Hood set in modern-day Las Vegas. When Rob Huntington comes home to Nevada from university in Boston when his father dies, everything has changed. The girl he’s loved all his life is sleeping with his enemy, his father has given away his legacy, and then he’s accused of murder.
Rob is Las Vegas aristocracy. Or he was. Now he’s hiding in the storm drains under the Strip, trying to prove himself innocent, and hatching a plan to steal back what was stolen.
Episodes (10,000 to 15,000 words each) will publish here on Substack on the last Sunday of every month, starting in February 2022. Season One has eight episodes.
Planners and systems and books, oh my!—Keep an eye out for posts about my mild (okay, maybe not so mild) obsession with paper stuff. And systems. The one question I’m asked more than any other is how I get so much done. I’ll let you peak into my weird little planner world. And share about paper crafts, my book binding hobby, and all kinds of analog fun.
Thank you for being here. Every journey is more fun with friends.
